Pearl Mandell

The Dance

I love the mysterious quality of this painting. It makes me think of ancient Druids performing a ritual ceremony. And the soft celadon green is a very calming color. Pearl Mandell was well-known for her early version of magical realism in and around her hometown of New Rochelle, N.Y.  In 1964 The New Rochelle Art Association held a small group show of four invited artists “all of whom paint in the modern manner.” The artists were Pearl Mandell, Margo Krouwer, and Edward Stoloff, and Frances Harkavy.
