Laurence Campbell grew up near the Philadelphia Museum of Art and visited often. He later studied architecture at Temple University and spent a few years as a builder. He settled in New Jersey and opened a studio where he sold his own art as well as that of others. He became best known for his snowy street scenes of New York City which he did from photographs he took on day trips there. He occasionally painted still life and portraits but this is the only nude we have seen.
Campbell exhibited infrequently and did not join any artist organizations. It has been reported that he stopped painting in 2003.
