Jane Wilson

Homage to Cezanne

Jane Wilson earned several degrees from the University of Iowa in her native state and taught there for two years before moving to New York City to pursue her career.  She became associated with a group of artists and poets called "The New York Poets" and exhibited at two co-op galleries, The Tanager and The Hansa.  A beautiful woman, she supplemented her income with fashion modeling for which she took some ribbing from her fellow artists. In fact, her friend Andy Warhol included her in his film 13 Most Beautiful Women.  He also commissioned her to paint his portrait Andy and Lilacs.

This painting was likely done in the 1960's or '70's during which time she was concentrated  on Still Life.  Her later work is usually Landscape.  In 1999 Wilson began exhibiting at the DC Moore Gallery where she is still represented today.
