Fredrick Leybourne Sprague

Yellow Tulips

Fredrick Sprague was born in 1907. Most of his early career was spent in Philadelphia where this work was created.  Records show that he was painting in the Death Valley area in the late '30's.

Sprague was briefly married to colorful socialite heiress Margaret Stuyvesant Rutherford, a stepdaughter of a Vanderbilt, who had previously been married to a United States Secretary of the Treasury, a British MI6 agent, and a prince.  He spent his last years with a long time partner in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  He died in 1993 in Palm Beach.
