Edward Howard Betts

Abstract


Yale educated Edward Betts was a member of the Art Students League in New York.  After obtaining a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois he taught there from 1949 to 1970.  Beginning in the 1940's he began to summer in Maine and most of his inspiration came from the coastal views of Monhegan Island.  He was a master of both representational and abstract styles.  He wrote three books, Creative Landscape Painting, Creative Seascape Painting, and Master Class in Watercolor. His work was highly regarded and he exhibited in most of the major art venues as well as being given a number of solo exhibitions at prominent galleries.  Today his work is represented in over 60 public and corporate collections around the country.
