Dorothy Reese was a beloved Philadelphia artist in the early twentieth century.  She studied with Philadelphia painter Arthur Carles and the New York abstract expressionist Hans Hoffman.  She exhibited at a number of galleries in Philadelphia concentrating mainly on still life and landscapes featuring the rural areas in the greater Philadelphia area.  She illustrated several stories in the Philadelphia Inquirer and was a prize winning poetess as well.  Her husband Leroy Wolfe worked at the paper as an editor and music critic.
